Mother’s Matchmaking Mission #2

Remember Mission #1? I just came back from mission #2, and I’m still reeling from embarrassment.

Out of character, my mom told me this past weekend to clear my Wednesday evening schedule, since she and my dad were planning on taking their friend out to dinner. “But… what does that have to do with me?” I asked. “We’ll be meeting at Lucille’s at six,” she responded. And that was that.

Well, during the drive to dinner, my mom finally tells me what’s going on, that the friends we’re meeting tonight have a son who flew in from San Francisco today and will be joining us for dinner, how he graduated from an Ivy League and worked in iBanking at Merrill Lynch, etc.

“So, this is basically an entire-family 맞선/소개팅(arranged introduction)…” I thought to myself.

After dinner, we all walked over to Panera Bread for coffee, and as he and I are about to sit down at the table, both sets of parents insist that we sit at separate tables, “so we can talk about our stuff and you guys about yours.”

Finally, the conversation to cap off the night during the drive back home:

Mom: So, what did you think of that oppa?

Me: Haha… umm…. he’s really smart…….

Mom: You guys should have exchanged contact info, so you can contact him if you have any questions in the future!

Me: Hahaha, yeah… I guess I’ll do that next time…….

Mom: NEXT TIME? When are you going to see him again?

And, a part of me dies inside. Oh mother…
