Take me by the tongue and I’ll know you?
My brother and I had a phase in the past when we thought mainstream music was an incarnation of the devil himself (Illuminati?) and we steered clear from the radio, listening only to Christian music. This lasted a few weeks but I eventually wore out my CDs and started wanting to hear more of a variety of music as I drove, so I switched back to Top 40s. However, it’s been a while since then.
Recently, my favorite song on the airwaves has been Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5. This might sound lame, but I honestly thought this was the catchiest song ever and, whenever it came on while I was driving people in my car, I’d go, “AHHHHH THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG EVER!!!” and belt it out. Except, there were parts of the song where I didn’t understand what they were saying, so I’d kind of mumble over that.
Well, last night, I found out what those parts of the song I mumbled were. While karaoking, I of course punched in the song number for Moves Like Jagger. And, mid-song, I became absolutely DISTURBED, DISGUSTED, AND ASHAMED that I was so fond of this song:
Take me by the tongue and I’ll know you
Kiss me till you’re drunk and I’ll show you
[…]
I don’t need to try to control you
Look into my eyes and I’ll own you[…]
So watch and learn
I won’t show you twice
Head to toe, oooh baby rub me right
I couldn’t even bring myself to sing that last line.
WHAT is the mainstream music industry promoting?! The devil is so sly, so clever, so deceitful in making the behavior and lifestyle that Moves Like Jagger promotes be accepted by this generation, even going so far as making it the societal norm. This is true for so many other mainstream music songs right now:
- Moves Like Jagger: casual sex, getting black-out drunk, objectifying females, female subordination
- We Found Love: casual sex, drugs, abuse, violence,
- Sexy and I Know It: looks, objectifying females
- Party Rock Anthem: living it up, objectifying females, female subordination, money, drinking, casual sex
- Super Bass: money, drugs, playing around
- Give Me Everything: living it up, casual sex, drinking
Let’s wake up to our surroundings and realize the light we need to be in our generation. “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).
URGENCY!!!
